1861-O 50C Seated Liberty Half Dollar PCGS XF40 CAC. Bisected Date, WB-103.
According to Bill Bugert’s A Register of Liberty Seated Half Dollar Varieties, volume IV, 13 coins of this die pairing were struck by the Confederacy after the New Orleans Mint was seized in 1861. This well-detailed Select specimen offers lightly marked lustrous surfaces, under shades of golden-brown and lavender-gray toning. We’ve seen coins of this variety fetch as much as $2,500 in the XF grade. PCGS tells us there is a population of only five (5) coins in this grade. (http://www.pcgs.com/cert/31329212)
