Banking House of Clark, Gruber & Co.. Check. Sept 19, 1863. Extremely Fine to nearly Mint condition. This is a superb example of a very scarce check issued by this multi-state bank which founded a gold assaying operation in 1860 and then sold it to the U.S. government in 1862 but continued bank practices. The firm issued demand notes in Kansas. Printed all in red, issued and canceled. A well-preserved revenue stamp at the left end. Quite a popular check and well collected with currency and Territorial Gold Coins.
