1894 $1 Morgan PCGS PR66 Cameo. A drop-dead gorgeous black and white cameo contrast proof dollar which we unhesitatingly declare as a “headlight!”
1894 is a difficult year to find nice in both business and proof strikes. Oftentimes the business strike is worth more than the proofs! There was a low business-strike production of just 110,000 pieces accompanied with a relatively generous mintage of 972 proof Morgan dollars. Predictably, high-quality business strikes are rare in today’s market, putting considerable pressure on the small supply of proofs from date collectors. This delightful Premium Gem exhibits sharply detailed design elements throughout, and the richly frosted devices contrast boldly with the deeply mirrored fields. The scanned surfaces show an exaggerated hue covering well-preserved surfaces but in hand this coin is nothing but black and white silver contrast. So much for the power of our scanner!
