1942 Walking Liberty 50C NGC PR69.
For the entire seven-year series and across both certification services, only 11 proof Walking Liberty half dollars have achieved the unsurpassed PR69 grade — nine of these are in the 1942 issue. For type collectors of proof coinage and Registry Set competitors, this remarkable, near-perfect 1942 proof Walker is unsurpassable in both quality and eye appeal.
This beautifully toned Superb Gem is second to none. The eye appeal stems from fully rendered design elements, gleaming, brilliant centers, and vivid rainbow peripheries. The coloring is especially bold along the upper-left obverse.
The design elements are fully struck, and no mentionable distractions are evident. Eye appeal is terrific. The record price realized for this issue belongs to the PR69 PCGS specimen in lot 4138 of the Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 2/2005), which realized $46,000. We have previously offered only four PR69 examples of the 1942 proof with an average realization of more than $36,000. The present coin is equally attractive and important.
